Copy and Print Center, Bitches

I never thought I would say this, but I am actually starting to like my job now! I started training in the Copy and Print Center this week and it is so hott. I love it so much more than stupid cashiering. I mean, cashiering is fine when I am working with people who make the time go by faster, but if we're super slow or super busy, it really sucks. There's not really a medium, ever. The CPC is a lot more stress because you're actually creating stuff for customers and they're relying on you, but still, overall it is fewer customers to deal, and the people are a lot smarter already there.

Other big jobish type news, I got a call from LPS today and my ID number and email address came in, so all I have to do is go down to the LPS main office, get my photo taken for my badge, sign a few forms, and I am officially a substitute for Lincoln Public Schools! Last night I was at this scrapbooking store (where I also applied for a job because I obviously won't be able to sub in the summer) and one of the women who works there is also a teacher at one of the parochial schools here in Lincoln, and she wasn't sure how to get on the sub list for that, since it is separate from LPS of course, but she would let me know. Also, she said they were going to need a Kindergarten teacher at the end of April because one of the teachers would be on maternity leave! How awesome is that! It wouldn't be incredibly long-term, since schools here get out sometime between the middle and end of May, but still, it would be such a great experience. The pay is less in the parochial school system, which sucks because LPS pays their teachers shit to begin with anyway, but the parent involvement is so much greater. I am so excited, but either way, I have to head to the LPS office now and sign all my forms and get all my cool new substitute teacher stuff, woohoo for me!

Not much else going on aside from that, probably watching SVU with Teetz tonight because that's what we do. It would work better on Tuesdays but nooooo, he had to go to Omaha and sit at an AMS meeting for a couple hours. I told him I'd go with and sit in the corner and work on my scrapbook and he said I'd be a distraction because they don't see pretty girls very often, so I stayed in Lincoln. And here I thought only engineering majors and computer science majors never see pretty girls, but poor meteorology majors don't either.

Anyway, that'd all for now, I really have to get to the LPS office, because they only do pictures for your name badge certain hours during the day and I think they stop soon.

I Don't Care If You Go To Office Max

I must really look like I truly care about the future of Office Depot. I am working there to pass the time until I am able to get a real job. When ever customers say "I can find this cheaper somewhere else" or "I'll just go to Office Max" I think they really think they are hurting my feelings. You know what, I'll even give you directions if you need them, because I don't care. I don't care if you go to Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, Office Max, Staples, etc. Go. Please go. You are annoying me anyway and you're stupid, so go shop somewhere else where I will not be bothered by you.

Not much else going on, as usual. Just working a lot and sleeping too. I feel like I am really catching up on all the sleep I missed in the last four and a half years. I do, however, have to start looking into getting my teaching certificate in Illinois though, as well as what the University of Illinois requires for entrance into their SpEd program, and Ed Psych. I also have to start apartment hunting soon because the lease is up in May and none of us are going to renew, because, while everything is fine again with the three of us, we all know we should never live together again.

I am sure JohnRoss will be able to answer this question, so I am hoping he gets around to reading this. I know it's okay for girls who's best friend is a guy to have him be the "maid of honor" but is it okay for him to just be a part of the bridal party? Here's the deal: Teetz is one of my best friends. I want him to be in my wedding. I was thinking he and Silas would be ushers, but the more I think about it, I really want him in my bridal party, which I know sounds kind of weird but I can't help it, he's Teetz. Well, Courtney will be my maid of honor of course, unless something completely unforeseen happens, and in the case that it does, Britt would assume maid of honor duties. Who knows, I know this is a long ways off anyway but I am still thinking about it because I love planning, and what better to plan than a wedding that isn't even happening for another 1+ year(s). Teetz wasn't entirely sure about this whole idea though, and suggested we play "Follow The Leader" down the aisle, which I thought was hilarious, but no one but he and Britt and I would get the joke. See, last year when we all lived near each other (Teetz and I were in Pound, Britt in Husker Courtyards), we would always walk to the Devaney Center for basketball games. Well, one day I suggested we play follow the leader and I said Teetz could go first. Well, he starts doing all this silly stuff, cartwheels, a duck walk, just really silly stuff. Then, when he spins around, he realizes he has been doing it by himself the whole time and Britt and I have just been walking like normal behind him. Good times, for us at least, but it was all in good fun and he didn't mind too much. I think my dress will be a bit much to play "Follow The Leader" in though, so it will probably have to be saved for the reception.

Thinking about "Follow The Leader" actually made me kind of sad, because it reminded me of everything I wrote about in my last post, and here was yet another memory I have of my two best friends. *Sigh*. I am starting to really hate change.

First Day at Belmont!

I am super excited so I am posting now. Drake just left not too long ago and I couldn't go back to sleep because I am just that excited about starting student teaching. It's going to be a lot of hard work but it is going to be so much fun. Yesterday we had our orientation and met with our site supervisor, there's only four of us at Belmont and they are all women I have had at least two or three classes with before. That's what I love about the education program here - there are enough blocks that you're not with the same people every single semester and you meet new people, but it's small enough so at least there are always familiar faces. Tom Wandzilak, the director of student teaching, suggested if you are working a job, you do so for no more than twenty hours a week. This is going to be a problem because I have 21 hours at Office Depot (Fri-Sun) and 16 at the testing center (Mon-Thurs). However, I got my refund check back from the university already for housing costs, so that will definitely help a lot. I am thinking about taking Saturdays off from Office Depot because I really do hate that job. That way the days are broken up a little and I only have to be in that place on Fridays and Sundays instead of the whole weekend. Plus I can take in a few football games as well. I know my bosses are not going to be happy, but it's just too bad - Office Depot will certainly not be MY career, I didn't spend a bajillion dollars at this stupid university just to be a cashier the rest of my life. I know I could move up rather quickly in the next few years, but who really wants to make Office Depot into a career? Not this girl. Anyway, now I must go get ready, I have to be there at nine and I still have to stop on campus and at the bank and stuff. I am super excited, this is going to be awesome!

The Customer IS NOT Always Right...and Teetz kicks ass

Before I rant about customers, I have to tell everyone that Teetz freaked out for nothing and kicked some butt on the GRE. I don't remember the exact score, it was 13-something so everyone should congratulate him because he worried for nothing. I told him he was smart and he'd be fine, but sometimes he likes to doubt me. I knew he'd do just fine, so yeah, that's some good news.

I really hate that saying about the customer always being right. I have had some grade-A majorly retarded customers in the short months I have been at Office Depot and let me tell you, they are the dumbest of the dumb. Now, I have four main gripes I will share with you about today's consumers and let us all hope you are not one of these people:

1. Printer Model Numbers
It's simple, you tell me your printer/copier/fax, etc model number and I can look up your cartridge/drum unit for you. If you do not know the number and you live/work with the machine, how in the name of all that is holy do you expect me to know? Don't get pissed at me because you're not smart enough to know the ink or model number.

2. Price Matching
If you want to use the coupon for Office Max so damn bad, then go to Office Max and spend it there. Office Depot is not my career, I do not give a shit if you go to a competitor. Prime example, a woman came in today and had the Office Max $15 off a purchase of $75 or more. I told her it was an Office Max coupon (because sometimes people are that dumb and don't know they went to the wrong store, see #4) and she goes, "Yeah but you usually accept them - or do you want me to go to Office Max." HELL YES I WANT YOU TO GO TO OFFICE MAX YOU STUCK UP PRETENTIOUS BITCH. But alas, I did not say that. Instead I just kind of smirked and shrugged my shoulders in a way that told her I wanted her to go without the words actually coming out of my mouth.

3. Crazy Christians and Their Tax Exempt Cards.
I understand that this does not apply to all Christians, nor does it even apply to all customers with tax exempt cards, but I have met some of the rudest people in Lincoln who have these cards. That is certainly not a good way to represent your church or congregation because if they all act like assholes and bitches then no thanks. Another Prime Example: This priest comes in every week or so and he has his tax exempt card. The first time I dealt with him he told me he was tax exempt AFTER I'd already done the sale and he was bound and determined to get that dollar back so I had to return everything and resell it, only to have him bitch the whole time. In addition to that, he didn't carry his tax exempt card with him so I had to look it up in the computer system, which he also got impatient about so finally I told him I would write it down for him so next time we wouldn't waste anyone's time. I really emphasized the 'anyone'. Apparently he didn't get the hint because he came in last week as usually, sans his tax exempt card. Poor Matt had to deal with him this time, and he waited over TEN MINUTES to get his THIRTY CENTS. I don't care if he is a priest, he is a DOUCHE.

4. Know Where You Are Going
I don't know about you, but when I get in the car I usually have a specific place in mind that I am going. I also do not usually forget that place once I am there inside the store. I don't know how many freaking times I have a customer ask me where they are at. YOU'RE THE ONE WHO DROVE YOUR FREAKING CAR HERE, MORON. That one really gets me. Idiots.

So the moral of the story is: Sarah was not cut out to work retail. Thank goodness I am going to be a teacher.

On a completely unrelated, albeit funny, note: One of Jenny's lame friends called me around 2 am on Saturday. I didn't recognize the number so I answered and all she said was, 'Hey dumb whore'. So I asked who it was and she told me it didn't matter and then she said I was a bitch or something as unoriginal, and so again I asked who it was and she still wouldn't tell me so I just said, "Okay that's cool, bye" and hung up. I don't think they understand that calling me up to call me some name or another really doesn't effect me. She also sent me a text later on telling me to grow up. Um, excuse me, but WHO IS THE CHILDISH IDIOT WRITING FAIRY TALES BECAUSE SHE CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH? Not this girl, that's for sure. I am assuming she is doing this because I sent Jenny a message on Facebook telling her how much Teetz, Britt and I enjoyed her story and that we hope there is a sequel, but she shouldn't sound so bitter next time around. This is the response I got from her:

Why, thank you for your kind interest in my work. I don't think I'll be writing a sequel, however, because I've rather lost interest in the main character of that particular story. It was a piece I had written so long ago, but it remained quite popular among my friends, so they asked me to post it online. I'm glad that my work is being read, but I must request that you wait to read more until it has been published. I want nothing more to do with you. Ever. Have a nice life.

I loved how she tried to sound all intelligent but it came off so forced. Now, correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't she the main character? Ah well, what can you expect from someone who is from Omaha? Of course I couldn't resist so I sent a message back saying that if she really wants nothing to do with me, her friends should probably stop calling and texting me. I also put something in about how when I had something to say, I said it to her, I didn't send my friends or my boyfriend to do it. This happened back when she thought I was telling everyone she was pregnant, when I was not telling people that. She had Kayleen call me, and she had DaveReid talk to Teetz.

Random Ramblings

You know, I would like to retire someday. I know I am awfully young to be thinking about this now, but when my time comes I want to know that I have enough saved and will be able to live comfortably for the rest of my life, should I reach retirement age. There are some people in this world who enjoy work and do it as long as possible, and some who work because they have no other choice, regardless of their age. I always feel bad when I see old people working at places like Wal-Mart, it just makes me feel bad. I know these people fall into both categories I mentioned, but I just think that it is sad when they have to work because they are not being taken care of by friends or family. I don't mind it if they do want to work but for those that HAVE to, I wish they didn't. Not only because I think they have worked for so long and should have a break, but because some people are just so damn mean. Have you seen how cranky or mean some people are to the cart ladies or the nice little old men who hand out the smiley face stickers? It's ridiculous. Last time I was home my grandma mentioned she thought about applying to Wal-Mart. My grandma is one of the sweetest people in the world and I hate the thought of someone being mean to her, and I would hate for her to have to get a job now, when all she should have to worry about is making sure all her flowers are planted for the summer. It's dumb. Wal-Mart is evil. Old people should not have to work a single day past the age of retirement. If anyone is mean to my grandma I will punch them in the face.

Not much else is going on aside from working. We have extended hours for Back to School in August. Gross. But if I get almost 40 a week I will be happy. Nothing else great to report on, but something I forgot about a week and a half ago when we were out: we saw Crazy Rachel. She flipped us off. Guess she's still a little mad, but not my problem, like I told her, it was her mistake, not mine. I emailed her and said I didn't think she was being mature flipping my friends off and she responded saying she was flipping me off, not them. I think it is kind of hard to flip someone off if they are not looking at you. Then the full effect of the flipping off is lost if they don't even know you did it. She's dumb. She responded to me also saying that I was still a selfish bitch who stabbed her in the back. My bad, I forgot that she ranks above everyone else in my life, but honestly, she knew Adam was going away, of course I would want to spend every waking moment possible with him. And if one were to talk about being a true friend, then she should have told me about Alexis and Adam when I point blank asked her if he had cheated on me. But that's neither here nor there, because the point is, she will always be crazy and I will always be right.

I am kind of anxious for school to start, I am getting bored. I am glad I will be in a familiar classroom with a familiar teacher, and it's cool that I get to be Mrs. Rengal's first student teacher. We'll see how it goes, but I'm psyched. But right now, I think I just want to take a nap.

I Immediately Regret This Decision

Twice this week I have had complaints against me from customers. I have worked there almost two months now and am always happy and smiling and cheerful to everyone. My friends would honestly not recognize me if they saw me with customers. But it's true, and it's because I have to be or else I could lose my job. But this past week I dealt with possibly two of the rudest people in Lincoln. On Tuesday a man came in and purchased a chair. We are currently running our "Back to School" program where Office Depot will donate 5% of your purchase to any school in the state. If you go in to Office Depot at any point and don't know which school to donate to, may I suggest one of the following: Belmont Elementary, Champion School, Cheney School, Doniphan High School, Randolph Elementary, West Holt High School, or West Lincoln Elementary. These schools definitely need it the most. Anyway, I asked this man which school he would like his %5 to go to and he said, "Louisville Public Schools". He made it plural, I heard him. This is important because this is what caused the problem. I was then flipping through the book to find the code for Louisville and even small towns have the schools broken up into elementary, middle and high school even if it is all one building, so I asked him which school. So then he said it again, "Louisville Public School" this time not plural, and he said it just as I located it in the book and saw that only one school was listed for the town. Then, he condescendingly started to spell Louisville for me slowly and I remember thinking in my head, "I know how to spell, thanks". Suddenly, as I am thinking those words, the same exact thing is coming out of my mouth. I could not believe I actually said that to a customer - not because I felt bad for him, he was an asshole and deserved it. I immediately regretted it because I could get in trouble for mean back. Peggy, the lead cashier, was also standing right there and later she told me that she couldn't believe I actually said that, but then she got a little chuckle out of it so I suppose it is okay. He was a jackass though and I know I have to watch my mouth because it gets me into trouble a lot. I know that at work I have to control myself, not no one ever talks down to me, and I mean no one. I will put you in your place if you do and that's the bottom line. I know it's not always the best approach to life but no one is going to treat me like I am dumb, because I am smarter than 99.9% of the customers that come into the store and I am not going to take their shit if it is ridiculously out of hand.

My second complaint came yesterday, and this is actually a joint-complaint against Matt and myself. This guy comes in looking for rubber bands. I was in Ink Depot and Matt was on register one. Matt told him they were aisle 24, then asked me if that was correct, and I said yes, aisle 24. No big deal, we go on about our day, helping other customers. Somewhere between five and ten minutes later, Peggy and Matt go in to lock-up because we needed more catalogues at the registers and they are on a really high shelf, and Peggy is about four feet tall so Matt had to get them for her. Afterwards Matt was to go on break. Matt turned his register light off, and unfortunately Peggy turned hers on but then went into lock-up. At this point it was fine because I had only one customer, but then one person lined up for Peggy, and Rubber Band Man and another customer went to Matt's register, where no light was on. I am helping my customer and Rubber Band Man says rather rudely, "Can you call someone please, you have customers waiting." I told him those registers were not open at the moment and in just a moment I could call someone up but that they were getting something from lock-up and could not come at that moment. I was physically in the middle of typing something into the register and could not stop or I'd lose my place. So Rubber Band Man comes over to my register and says, "You have people waiting, you need to call someone now." So I tell him again that I can in a moment but I am helping another customer right now and Peggy and Matt will be back any second - and then sure enough, they came out of lock-up. Peggy went to her register and Matt was walking toward the back for his break. Then the phone started ringing and I asked Matt to get it, which he did. He then went on break. I ended up helping Rubber Band Man, who was so rude and then asked for my manager's name, the store number, and my name, and I was just like, ok, whatever. I totally played it like it didn't matter, because it didn't. He can call and complain, and while he may have been in a hurry, he needed to realize he can't just get his way and there were people ahead of him. I hand him his receipt and everything, and then I go to write the information down for him and I was going to circle the phone number on the receipt,which I told him was where the phone number was and he is all pissy and says he doesn't want me to do anything to the receipt and takes it away from me. I then tell him I need to see the receipt to write the number down for him and he gives it back. He calls Jennifer (our assistant manager)and actually LIES RIGHT TO HER. He said when he came into the store Matt was sitting and spinning in a chair - he wasn't, he was standing up because I could see him; we were talking when the guy asked for rubber bands. Then he said that when Matt came over to answer the phone quick, he asked Matt to ring him up and Matt told him he was on break. That is complete bullshit, he never said a word to Matt, and when Jennifer asked how the guy knew Matt was going on break, I told her exactly what happened: Peggy was helping the customers at the front register, I was helping Rubber Band Man, and Matt handled the phone, then told Peggy he was going on break when everything was under control and everyone was being helped. Seriously, people like that fucking piss me off. The world doesn't revolve around you just because you are a CEO of Asshole Inc, so take the stick out of your ass and stop being a stupid motherfucker. He also told Jennifer I made some snide comment to him, which I didn't because if I did, I'd own up to it. I owned up to telling the other customer I knew how to spell, didn't I? There's no point in lying. The guy was an asshole and Matt and I got in trouble because this guy was in a hurry and full of shit. Ah well.

I am just hanging out at my apartment and stupidly decided to watch Black Hawk Down. I haven't seen it in a while; in fact, Adam is the last person I watched it with. Incidentally, I don't think I can continue watching this because it scares the shit out of me. I know he's not going to be out on a Hawk all the time, but while in Bosnia he trained on them and at some point or another, I know he will be doing drops. What worries me even more is that fact that he is on the ground. I have not been able to talk to him yet and I know I mentioned this before but I don't think I will be able to rest easy at all until I hear his voice telling me he is okay. I know the next 12 months are going to be hell on everyone close to him, not just me, but there's also the possibility he will be gone at least 18 months. Going 6 months without seeing him was tough enough, but 18? It just wasn't enough time when I had to say good-bye and until I can see him again and hug him again, I don't think I'll be quite myself. I'm trying to be brave and strong, like Adam is being right now, but it's hard. Even my mom said, no matter what she thinks of Adam for everything that happened, she has a lot of respect for what he's doing and the fact that he felt is was his duty and something he had to do. Now I am all sappy and emotional and I hate it but I worry about him. And I know worrying won't solve anything and neither will crying about it, but I do those things because I don't know what else to do. I know that these are things I can not do when I talk to him because he worries about me enough and he doesn't need to be thinking about me at home crying while he's out on a mission or patrol. I just wish this was all over and he was back home where he belongs.

Scrubs, Adam, Managers, Boyfriends, and Elk Creek Water

I love this show. Really, truly, I love it. It is hilarious and people don't appreciate it the way they should. We started watching Season 1 on dvd and are halfway through already. It just cracks me up, I love the cutaways and random montages, it's great.

Adam will be leaving any day now. He is in Mississippi waiting to be sent over. I've talked to him a lot lately, he called me really early this past Saturday and I think now we're at a point where everything is really truly going to be okay with us. I don't really want to go into too much detail because it's really personal, and the people who really need to know what he said to me already know. All that matters is that we talked about things and there were some things he needed to let me know, and I am so grateful we were given the opportunity to be able to talk. But I miss him already, as well I should, I have not seen him since New Year's Eve. We have been able to talk on the phone a lot though so that helps. I told him I would always be there no matter what and the day he comes home from Iraq, you bet your ass I will be there, nothing, and I mean NOTHING, could keep me from the Armory on that day.

So my manager at work left, he is going across the street to Best Buy. A lot of people were upset, especially those who have worked with him for so long. Me, on the other hand? Not so much. I didn't really like him much and avoided him at all costs. As a manager, I feel it is his (and the assistant managers too) responsibility to help new employees. I don't feel that it is helpful to just train them for a few days and expect them to know everything, because there are always going to be random things that do not come up in training. Our managers do not like to be paged by employees who have questions. Now, this is understandable if the employee has been there for a couple years or so and should know what is going on. I do not feel, however, that they should leave new employees to just stumble along on their own. I think that is really poor management and managers being lazy. If you have a key to the register and I need to void something and the only way to void it is by using the key, then get your ass out of your office and help me out. If it is something not physically possible for me to do on my own, then sorry, but you have to work for five minutes out of your day, my sincerest apologies.

So this boyfriend thing is working out nicely thus far. Pretty much all the "rules" have been broken in terms of Knappster's Roller Coaster theory, but hey, it's worth it. And that's all I have to say about that ;)

By the way, tomorrow night we're taking Teetz to Sandy's to get him all kinds of fucked up on Elk Creek Water, so if you don't annoy me and I actually like you, come with us, give my cell a call. Later kids.

Ramblings

I know it has been a long time since I have posted anything, sorry. Most of you probably quit checking it by now and are fed up with my lack of motivation. Sorry, I have just been busy working lately.

I talked to Adam again last night. He came home yesterday instead of today and I don't think I am going to get to see him at all, not even the day he leaves, which is June 17th. Talking to him on the phone is good and bad, because I like hearing his voice, but I also know that it means I am that much closer to the last time I will hear his voice for a year. I also probably won't get to see him on the day he leaves because his girlfriend has a major complex and is basically a dumb bitch about everything. So much for him having a mind of his own. Not even Silas can get Adam out of her grasp, he's tried. It's too bad, because let's face it, she isn't cute at all, and she has fat arms.

So this past weekend was one of the most orgasmic times of my life! The Huskers became Region Champs at Haymarket, beating the University of Illinois-Chicago on Friday, Creighton on Saturday, and then again on Sunday. I HATE Creighton. And no I know what you guys are all thinking and I do not hate Creighton because of HER. I hate Creighton for the pure and simple reason that Creighton sucks. On Saturday a bunch of people booed Colin Shockey when he was up to bat and some stupid Creighton fan was like, "Have some class." She then proceeded to talk shit about those of us who booed him to her equally as bitchy friend. That's not showing much class either, but hey, all I pretty much said was, "Whatever bitch, Creighton fans are ten times worse than Husker fans whenever we play at Rosenblatt in Omaha so shut your stupid mouth you dumb bitch." I was not going to take any shit from some stupid Omaha bitch. I don't think I know a single decent person from Omaha aside from my Sisters. There are a few here and there, but otherwise Omaha basically blows ass and sucks ass at the same time. I guess everyone has to have a talent. Ah well. On the plus side, I got a picture taken with Jesse Boyer after we won Regions on Sunday. He's gorgeous, and that's nice.

The bad part about this weekend is my friends from Indiana did not come because while they have the ability to talk to me about the weekend, they unfortunately do not know how to communicate to one another. Not a huge deal, Buttons just knows he is on my shit list until he makes it up to me, so all is well. And Zach has pretty much been non-existent, but everyone is busy and shit happens.

Kayleen and I have a few cute little surprises planned for Teetz's birthday and I of course can not say them here because Teetz reads this, but let's just say for once he won't be annoyed by something I do, because it's his 21st birthday and I am going to be completely and totally nice to him the whole day. I will not say one word about banging his brother, there will be no 'no penis' jokes, no' your mom' jokes, nothing. I will not utter the phrase 'cockblock' at any time during the day, and so on. Now that I read that list, I realize I should in general probably be nicer anyway. But he says mean stuff to me too, so I can at least give him one day. I know we're going out to dinner on his actual birthday, the 16th, but he has not chosen a place yet and if he doesn't soon, then Kayleen and I might just have to choose for him. I am so going to choose Chuck E Cheese. Gross. Ha ha.

Some guys are such mindfucks and it drives me nuts, but in a good way. I thought we moved out of the name-calling and arm-punching as flirting tools when we moved into middle school, but I guess not. Sadly, I still think it is cute. Maybe not so sadly, cuz that's kind of how I operate sometimes too. Either way, sometimes I wish a guy would just have the guts to say, "Hey, let's go out to dinner sometime." If we're both so obvious in our flirting that other people notice it, then it's about time someone does something about it. On the other hand, we're both just flirts anyway, so it might mean nothing. I haven't decided yet. I am being picky these days, don't want to end up with a dud, literally or figuratively.

I went to that Mongolian grill place tonight with Teetz, Brett, and Drake. It was decent but not worth the price. I don't know, maybe I just wasn't hungry. I haven't been again lately and it's kind starting to worry me again. I think it partially has to do with Adam and him leaving but it feels different this time, it's bigger, beyond him, even beyond my control anymore. Oh well, I'll jump that hurdle when I get to it.

On Monday at work, one of the nicest things ever happened to me and it left me feeling kind of sad, because in all honesty, I realized what a horrible person I am. Back in the first week I started working at Office Depot, this nice older gentleman came in to make copies, he usually does a couple times a week. He is a regular of course so he knew I was a new cashier and was asking me questions about school and my major and everything. I told him I was el ed and he mentioned his wife had co-authored a book entitled, 'Resources for Creative Teaching in Early Childhood Education'. He said I should check it out and see if it would be helpful. Well, I looked at it online and then at Barnes and Noble special ordered it because it really seemed like it would help me, there were great ideas in it. Then I found out it was over one hundred dollars which kinda made me put on the brakes a little. Well, on Monday I got a phone call at work, and it was the man, Harold, asking how long I would be at work because he had some copies to make and he wanted to give me a copy of the book. I honestly could not believe it. This man, who barely knew me at all, was giving me this incredible gift. I know a lot of you are probably going, 'Oh big deal, it's a book', but it's not just the book itself, but the act of generosity surrounding it. He did not have to do this, and what means even more is that it has his wife's name in it and on several pages she had marked things where changes need to be made, etc. She passed away a few years ago and he said that he knew I was someone who could get a lot of use out of it and that she would not want it to just sit on a shelf collecting dust. I was just so amazed that people like him exist, I almost started crying. And not because I'm a big crybaby, but because it was one of the nicest things someone has ever done for me. I felt like such an awful person after that because I have never done anything to deserve this, he did this because he wanted to and that's the kind of person I do want to be; the kind who does stuff for other people because they want to, not because of any kind of gain they might receive. And the book is amazing, there is a lot I will be able to use when I student teach even, and when I have my own classroom too. Wow. That's all, just wow.

Ramblings

I've hung out with Teetz pretty much every day since he and I have been back in Lincoln and when I am not at work. In fact, I am at his apartment right now because we just layed out by the pool all morning. Kayleen will be here in a while and all in all, it is a pretty lazy Thursday afternoon.

I really like my job. Granted, it is just Office Depot and won't be my career, nor is it in any way actually related to my career, but I like the people I work with and they have all been really helpful during training. I trained yesterday and Tuesday on the register and tomorrow I am on my own. Well, there will always be someone around to help me out but mostly I will be on my own and Jo won't be on stand-by to fix anything I do wrong.

I have given up trying to figure out the male mind. For the most part guys are extremely simple creatures and think of few things but sex, food, sex, sports, sex, and (sometimes) cars. Then you meet that one who still thinks about all these things all the time, but is highly intelligent too and seems to be able to play mind games as good as any female. Those are the tricky guys you have to watch out for. Too bad they're usually so damn cute (personality and looks combined) that you can't help but liking them even though you know they are probably not good for you. Sometimes I am a sucker for guys like this, as Silas pointed out in a recent phone conversation. Thanks Si. ;)

Hooray for Internet!

Finally, after a week and a half of agony and the creepy Selleck basement computer lab, we now have the internet in our house. Woohoo. I can not quite put into words why I missed Facebook, MSN, or AIM so much but I did. I start my new job at Office Depot tomorrow, I have three days of computer training before I even start out on the floor, but I am just going to be a cashier so I am not too worried about it. Plus, the manager already wants to train me in the copy center so that will be a plus. With my ADHD, it's probably a good thing I won't be doing the same thing all day long. And, the best part is, even if I work on Saturdays, we close at 8, I am out of there by 8:30, and still have time to hit Ground Zero by ten or so.

I talked to Silas tonight, because as usual I am over-thinking about Adam going to Iraq. I just have to remember he is not going to fight, he's going to maintain security, which of course I know there will be times where he will have to fight, but it is not his primary objective. Also, I was told I made his gf have a hissy fit every time I was at the apartment. Apparently at one of the parties back in December, she didn't like the fact that he was talking to me, or had his arm around me, and she just sat there the whole time muttering about how I was a bitch or something. I hope she realizes jealousy and insecurity is definitely not the way to keep Adam, because though most guys in general will not put up with that bullshit, he tolerates it even less. Besides that, if she were ever to tell him he couldn't ever see me, more than likely she'd get the "fuck off" from him, because that's the same thing he would have told Alexis if she had suggested he and I couldn't be friends anymore. I think all parties involved just need to accept the fact that Adam and I are and will remain friends due to the many extenuating circumstances involved in our relationship and that's it, end of story. The Silas thing also leads me to my next point, in regards to the email mentioned in previous posts. I still have gotten no reply by either email or phone in regards to MY response, so I am guessing she didn't like the fact that I wasn't kissing her butt trying to get her back in my life. All I have to say is: Who came back to who?

That's about all for now, I suppose I should get some sleep soon, seeing as how I am starting a new job and have not worked for the last week and have grown accustomed to sleeping until noon or one. I am going to miss the sleeping for 12 hours at a time thing, but hey, sometimes you gotta race.
